Mt Baldy Racers Qualify for BC Winter Games
The news is spreading fast. Nils Rauhala and Nicholas Everton qualified for the BC Winter Games with Ben Myers listed as first alternate. The qualifying process involved the Apex Slalom results as well as the Sun Peaks GS results. Twenty three skiers from the Thompson-Okanagan Zone were chosen (12 boys, 11 girls) and our racers finished 4th (Nicholas), 6th-tied (Nils) and 13th (Ben). On the heels of our great result Coach Warren was also chosen as one of four coaches for the zone team. This is such a great moment for our young club. Congratulations everyone!

Sun Peaks GS
Results here Sun Peaks GS K1/K2
Great race for Baldy Racers at the Sun Peaks Teck K Races on the weekend. All five K level kids participated and had good results amongst the field of 37 girls and 38 boys. A long hard-packed race course made for a real challenge for the kids. The race times were over a minute long with 37 gates to negotiate. Saturday's format was two races (one run each), which saw Nils Rauhala place 8th in both with Nicholas Everton pulling off a 6th in each. Ben Myers placed 19th and 14th and had a solid day. Participating in their first K level GS race Agatka Koczij and Daniel Everton really held their own as ten year olds in a field of mostly 11 and 12 year olds. Agatka finished 28th and 32nd and Daniel 29th and 27th to round out Saturday's competition.Sunday's format was a two run combined race in very challenging conditions. Overnight it snowed 28 cms, which delayed the race by an hour. Course organizers went with one K2/K1 course-set and used the most challenging terrain on the race run. Once the course was slipped repeatedly Baldy Racers got off to a great start. Nicholas occupied 7th after the first run and with a strong second run ended up 5th. Nils held down 10th after the first run and clawed back to 8th after a very strong second run. Agatka had a great first run but ran into some trouble on the second to finish 31st. Ben sat 19th after the first run but DNF'd on the second run. Daniel unfortunately DNF'd on the first run, which ended his day early.
All in all a great race for the team. Everyone added to their points totals and even our youngest racers move up the points rankings giving them better start positions going forward.
And amongst those racers we still like to call our own... Baldy Racer alumnus Ella Pasin had a great day on Sunday finishing 10th in the K2 girls race. Silken Rauhala finished 9th overall in the Nakiska Meile Cup SL on Sunday... She rocked. Check out the result Meile Cup Result

Baldy Racers Kick-off Season with BC Alpine Review
It was a great start to the general programs for Mt Baldy Alpine Club on the weekend. We had the K-racers training with Yanni-Lou our new Level 2 Coach from Quebec. She had many insights and coaching points for our young racers to consider while training hard for the upcoming GS race at Sun Peaks.
Sunday saw the start to our Nancy Greene Program with Coach Gary and Coach Greg taking the new recruits and returnees through their paces early. As an added twist to the start-up weekend we had Justine Parent, Club Development Coordinator with BC Alpine following our coaches while they trained with their athletes. She was able to offer insights into our program, reviewed our goals as well as give the coaches a course setting and drill refresher. Overall she was impressed with our program and liked how we incorporated fun with the core ski racing focus. She commented that we're ahead of many clubs in our ski racing development.

Christmas Training
The K-level Baldy Racers did some training over Christmas, though it was difficult with out a well packed training run. We did manage to get some brushes in the snow and do some turn-shape drills. We also had Silken Rauhala of the BC Team work with the kids on technique and development of the perfect turn. There was also a powder clinic day and lots of free skiing. Attached is a link to some early season training videos.
