Mt Baldy Racers Wind-up and Fun Dual
Mt Baldy provided a great spaghetti lunch after the club ran it's parents against the kids fun dual slalom to end off the season on March 11th. There were many contests that ended in the kids winning including Coach Warren against his oldest son Nicholas. Four tries, a bruised knee and four losses for the coach! He also had trouble with his youngest son Daniel but the same results were happening with many other families.
The final snow stars certificates were given out after lunch including the Most Improved Trophies. These went to the following racers:
Maiya Koenig (green group)
Anika Crape (blue group)
Mia McBryde (black group)
Nils Rauhala (K group)
Coach Gary also announce his retirement for next year and the Club was very thankful for all his help over the years. I'm sure we'll see Gary filling in for a missing coach here and there next year. It's been great having him on the coaching team.
Please send pics of the Wind-up to the club email address for upload. Thanks.

Nancy Greene Zone Finals
Baldy Racers had good fun and great success at the Big White zone finals March 4th and 5th. Anna Baerg was the lone E1 racer on the Saturday, but Sunday we had nine racers compete in the E2 competition. Some notable results were Mia McBride's first place finish in the 11 year old girls category with Anya Nazaroff right behind her in second. Jack FW was third in the 12 year old boys category and Agatka Koczij placed fifth in 10 year old girls. Well done racers!

BC Winter Games
Coach Warren and racers Nicholas and Nils had a great experience at the BC Winter Games as part of the Thompson Okanagan Zone Alpine Ski Team. The coach got to work with all 23 athletes as well as chaperone them to the numerous events held around Vernon for three days. There was potential for great results from our Baldy Racers and they gave it their best. The GS wasn't a great start for our guys with Nicholas DQ'd on the second run after posting the 8th fastest time on the first. Nils DNF'd on the first run in challenging weather, which had in-and-out fog all day. He also had to deal with one of our own team mates mistakingly skiing off with his skis. The Ski Cross on Saturday proved challenging but our racers showed they could absorb the bumps and rolls with the best. Nicholas posted the 14th best time and Nils was 28th. In the Slalom on Sunday Nils laid down the 16th fastest time with Nicholas finishing 19th. Our teammates shone at times with Zane Torres of Big White earning silver in GS, Brooke Lukinuk (Big White) earning bronze in Ski Cross and Jesse Howden (Apex) grabbing the silver in Slalom. Overall the Thompson Okanagan Zone finished second in the medal standings with 80 medals, only one medal behind Vancouver Squamish Zone with 81. Congratulations to all racers and organizers. It was a great event. Check out more pictures on the BC Winter Games Flickr site.
