First Day of Nancy Greene Ski League

Mt. Baldy's first day of ANGSL (Alcan Nancy Greene Ski League) starts January 6th. The day will start at 9:30 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m. Please meet at the hut/deck area outside the lodge. The cost of the program is $250 and includes Alpine Canada insurance for racer and one parent, membership in BC Alpine (http://www.bcalpine.com/), certified coaching and instruction, subscription to Ski Canada magazine and a book of ten tickets for BC Alpine's Pontiac Torrent raffle. These tickest can be sold to other people to recover some of the cost or used for your own chances to win.

Please make sure that all racers have a helmet, poles and skis/bindings in good repair set-up properly for their weight, height and ability.

Please note that the Nancy Greene Ski League is not a learn to ski program, it is a program focusing on improving skills by encouraging a love of skiing with introductory competition. Supplementing this is the Snow Stars skill development program for young skiers designed by skiing professionals and delivered by our certified coaches. This seven-step program offers the key skills required to progress from beginner to athletic skier and eventually to learn the basic tactical skills needed for a ski racer. See the complete outline at http://www.canski.org/webconcepteur/web/alpine/en/programs/nav/developmentprograms.html?page=details.jsp&iddoc=78341

There are two optional races during the season including the first at Apex on Feb, 2nd and the Okanagan Finals at Big White on March 8th & 9th. As well we are planning on having the Baldy Cup club challenge race on January 27th. Be ready to volunteer!

K Race No.1 Sun Peaks

The first K level (K1 - 11 & 12 yr olds, K2 - 13 & 14 yr olds) was held on Dec 15th and 16th at Sun Peaks. It was a very successful race for Baldy's Silken Rauhala who placed 2nd on the 1st day and then two 3rds on the second day. Both days featured a full length GS course that really tested the kids emerging skills. It was the first K race ever for Madeleine Everton who continued to improve over the weekend and cracked the top 15 in the final race of the weekend. All in all it was a very fun and motivating experience. As well as K racers there were J level racers (15-18 yr olds) and teams from the Okanagan, Prince George and even a team from Australia. Next race is a slalom on Jan 20th & 21st at Big White. We are planning on starting some stubbie slalom training over the holidays at Baldy. If there are any E level kids around they are welcome to join in for some early Nancy Green training. More pictures are on the Baldy Team Picture link on the left side bar.
