Coach Warren and racers Nicholas and Nils had a great experience at the BC Winter Games as part of the Thompson Okanagan Zone Alpine Ski Team. The coach got to work with all 23 athletes as well as chaperone them to the numerous events held around Vernon for three days. There was potential for great results from our Baldy Racers and they gave it their best. The GS wasn't a great start for our guys with Nicholas DQ'd on the second run after posting the 8th fastest time on the first. Nils DNF'd on the first run in challenging weather, which had in-and-out fog all day. He also had to deal with one of our own team mates mistakingly skiing off with his skis. The Ski Cross on Saturday proved challenging but our racers showed they could absorb the bumps and rolls with the best. Nicholas posted the 14th best time and Nils was 28th. In the Slalom on Sunday Nils laid down the 16th fastest time with Nicholas finishing 19th. Our teammates shone at times with Zane Torres of Big White earning silver in GS, Brooke Lukinuk (Big White) earning bronze in Ski Cross and Jesse Howden (Apex) grabbing the silver in Slalom. Overall the Thompson Okanagan Zone finished second in the medal standings with 80 medals, only one medal behind Vancouver Squamish Zone with 81. Congratulations to all racers and organizers. It was a great event. Check out more pictures on the BC Winter Games Flickr site.
