New Head Coach for the Mt Baldy Alpine Club

The Mt Baldy Alpine Club has been evolving in a exciting direction over the last 5 years,  from a Nancy Greene racing program to full U12 and U14 ski racing program.  The coach behind this exciting growth and success has been Warren Everton and the great parent volunteers of the racers.  The program has taken the next step forward hiring a full time Head Coach, Yanni Lou Gagnon.

Yanni  is a 24 year old CSCF Level 2 certified ski racing coach.   Skiing since age 3, and cousin to Canadian Alpine Racer Marie-Michele Gagnon. Yanni started skiing in Lac-Etchemin around Quebec city on a ski hill called Mont-Orignal.   Raced from age 5 to 19.   In the K1 Quebec winter Games, she finished 1st in Super-G race and took the 2nd place on the GS.   Yanni raced for bigger mountains all over the province and  was always in the top 5.   At the age of 17 she attained her Level 1 in coaching and level 2 at age 18.  Yanni brings to Mt Baldy, five years of coaching experience from Quebec, a solid Province of technical ski racers.  Yanni is quoted, "I'll be the headcoach this winter,  it's the most amazing experience for me, I'm so happy".    Her philosophy with ski racers, " as long as I can transmit my knowledge, experience and passion to those kids while  having fun,  they will improving themselves as ski racers and people" .  Yanni has assisted coaching at Mt Baldy for one season,  this transition to Head Coach is exciting for both the club, racers and Yanni,  "I love coaching at Baldy and realize this is my lifetime dream. Go racers go !!!"

Yanni was asked who has had the most influence  in your skiing life?  "It was first of all my dad,  my best fan ever.   I needed him every morning before my race,  just to hear his voice .   Also, my coach Michel Paquette of 4 years,  he was really good for me".

If your interested in our great ski racing program and  have a son or daughter,  age 5 and older ,  please contact the club for registration for Nancy Greene starting the beginning of January,  and the  U12 and U14 starting with training at the end of November.   Contact Paul at okaped.com or check out our blog "baldyracers.blogspot.com/".  Our program is about fun, progression and just becoming a great skier with the friends of Mt Baldy.
